When you research on places to go, you look at pictures of where you are going. So coming to Lake Como I knew that it would be beautiful. But pictures just don’t do it justice. Every place I go takes away my breath, literally.
Each place is so different and so beautiful in their own ways.
Upon arriving in Como, the company we rented our Airbnb from picked us up from the train station and took us to our place. It was honestly pretty far from the city, but our place had an amazing view of the lake and the cities surrounding it.
We got settled in and figured out the bus schedule and restaurant times so that we could get dinner, but still make the bus because we were about an hour walk from town (all up hill). We tried catching one bus, but it drove right passed us (we weren’t at the correct bus station).
Finally we got a bus to stop and we began our journey to the city. We were given a couple of suggestions of places to eat and get dinner. So we walked by a few and ended up picking a place called Osteria del Gallo. We got a red house wine and since it was a family owned restaurant they only had about 4 options for the main course, so i got a ravioli with spinach and cheese. I will forever think about that meal, it was absolutely delicious, mouth water type of meal.
Next morning we woke up and made breakfast and then made our way to town. We decided to ride the fairy to Bellagio. On the way we passed George Clooney’s house!!
Bellagio was filled with bright colored buildings and lots of palm trees and of course stairs and churches. We walked along the lake and then up through the city. We stopped and got lunch ate a cute lil restaurant called Vecchio Brogo. I got gnocchi and it was delicious!! We later took a bus back to our place and had the rest of the night to chill, make dinner, and play cards.
Next morning we packed up our stuff, said goodbye to our beautiful view of the lake, and headed back to como. We took the Como-Brunate Funicular to the city of Brunate which had an amazing view of Como and Lake Como. The ride up and down was so cool and so pretty. Pictures and videos can’t show how much beauty is there.
We went to lunch at another family owned restaurant. It was so cute and so homie. The place mats were old records. The first course we got was a spaghetti with mushrooms and it was sooo good and the flavor was amazing. As for the other course we got a plate of random meats and vegetables (frozen). A little disappointed with that part of the meal.
We then walked around and saw the cathedral of Como. And wow do they care about their churches. Every church that I have gone into has had stunning and detailed architecture and paintings all over the church. I have yet to see an “ugly” church.
We got to the train station about 20 minutes early and saw on the board that our train was going to be at platform one. So we went to platform one and a train showed up, people got off and then we got on. But within 30 seconds the train started to more again and we realized we were on the wrong train since this one left 20 minutes early. We began to freak out since we had no idea where we were headed. Luckily it was going to Milan, which is where our connecting train was. But it took us to Milan Garibaldi and not Milan Central. So with 7 minutes to get to our train we ran through the train station to the metro, took the metro for two stops, ran through the metro and then through the train station. We hopped onto our train and had to walk through about 10 cars before finding an empty seat. It was definitely a bit stressful, but we made it onto the right train!
Side note: I have been searching for an English speaking church in Torino, and I have yet to find one! My roommate and I thought we found one yesterday, but we showed up and they were closing the church! It is stressful because I want to go to church, but when they speak Italian I don’t know what the readings are about and I don’t know what the message is. That is the reason I go to church is to get something out of it and the praise God, but it makes it hard when I don’t understand them. This has definitely been a bit of a challenge for me since being here.
