Reflecting

Hello everyone!
It has been a while since I last posted on here. I have been back from Europe for quite a while now and I have been working a ton, but I am finally back in school! For English, we had to write about something that was important to us and we could write it in any format. So, I decided to write about my study abroad in a poem. I hope you all enjoy it!!
It’s Over
Standing on the balcony watching the sunrise over the Alps,
one last time it is over 4 months and 18 days.
How does the time seem to drift by so quickly?
The somber clouds rolled by as she walked
to the train station, this was it, the final goodbye.
The leaves were dancing around her ankles
as she pulled her luggage behind her.
Her freedom, her liberty, is slipping away,
as soon as she steps foot on the plane it’s all gone.
Change, it happens without you ever knowing,
she has changed, she has grown independent,
more confident, and more mature,
but to everyone else has she?
Venturing through Rome alone,
creating her own adventure.
Walking to the Vatican, waving to the pope,
things she dreamed of until now.
Do they see it? Do they see her differently?
She feels it, she knows it’s there,
how do they not?
They all want to know, “how was studying abroad,
was it amazing?” but how does one answer that,
because it was amazing but that’s only just a piece of it all.
There are so many highs and lows, people only want the highs.
But the lows are what she learned from, being homesick,
missing a train, sleeping in the airport, it’s not all glamorous,
but it’s the most memorable.
Life never stops, there aren't any time outs or pauses.
You either go with it or you are left behind.
Did she miss it, she explored the world, but not with them;
they moved on and so had she.
How do you leave and come back to everything feeling like you never left?
But it's different, everything changed, everyone has grown apart,
you were the center of the relationship, now they aren’t friends
because you left, you left the gaping hole.
Signing off.
